Vacuum oven, otherwise called as drying oven or thermal oven, is a kind of gentle and effective drying method which combines effects of vacuum with heat. Vacuum oven removes excess moisture at low temperature by reducing pressure, which lowers boiling point (bp) of solution, and optimizing temperature control to accelerate evaporation rate. Therefore, it is particularly great for drying materials that are heat-sensitive, easily decomposed, and oxidized, such as medication, food, etc.
The pump selection varies depending on used solution (water or chemicals), acceptable temperature of target material, and size of oven chamber. The pump with higher (deeper) vacuum should be chosen to reduce the boiling point (bp) of solution; the flow rate of pump is directly proportional to chamber size and amount of wet vapor.
